La Paz Carnaval
February - March
The actual date of Carnival varies, but it always occurs in the months of March or April in La Paz. Everyone looks forward to the celebration of dance, fun, art presentations, a fair, parades and lots of parties. The celebration begins with the elections of Queen of the Carnival and the traditional "Quema del Mal Humor" or "Burning of Bad Humor". During this ceremony, a representation of "bad humor/bad mood" is burned in front of the crowd to celebrate good humor. In the following days, the "Feo" or "Ugly" King and Queen are crowned and there is a parade of floats, music and confetti.
La Paz Founding Festival

The celebrations for La Paz's founding have become an important cultural, artistic and historical festival for the residents of Baja California Sur. During the first days of May, expositions and local artists as well as a number of La Paz residents gather in the Kiosco del Malecón in the state capital. This event commemorates the founding of La Paz almost five centuries ago.
Bisbee's International Fishing Tournament

This international fishing tournament draws the best fishermen in the world to compete for the prize striped, black and blue marlin. This tournament has taken place off the coasts of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo for several years. Without a doubt, this is one of the most important sporting events in the state.
Off-Road Races
Multiple Dates Throughout the Year
Since Baja California Sur is isolated from the bulk of the continent, it does not have any national-level sport teams. Nevertheless, there is a sports team in this community for off-road racing. This activity is an excellent option if you visit the state during one of the off-road competitions. Races are held every month and you'll get a healthy dose of adrenaline when you feel a car with 750 horsepower and the best suspension you can imagine pass you with just a few feet to spare. The races are highly recommended if you enjoy extreme sports.
Todos Santos October Festival

Only 50 minutes from La Paz and the same distance from Los Cabos, is the colorful town of Todos Santos. Every year they hold traditional celebrations with an artistic, cultural and musical festival. People come from all corners of the state to enjoy bands, beer and fun.
