Places to Visit

La Quebrada

La Quebrada in Acapulco is one of the most well-known places in the state. The anecdotes have traveled all over the planet, telling stories of brave divers jumping from a height of 100 feet over the sharp and dangerous cliffs.

The dangerous nature of this act demands respect - not only because of the height of the jump from the sharp cliffs, but also because the jump requires exact precision. The water must almost completely fill the bay where the diver enters the water or it will not be deep enough and the diver will crash against the rocky bottom.

Places to Visit

Cliff diving has been going on for generations in Acapulco and has become one of the main attractions in this port. It is also a tradition for the people who live in this area, which increases the magic that surrounds this beautiful and spectacular event.

At night, the divers put on an even bigger show as they jump from the cliffs with torches creating an arc of light as they fall into the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean.

La Costera Miguel Alemán

One place that is not only a great spot in Acapulco, but one of the most popular in the state, is the Costera Miguel Alemán. Here you will find an enormous variety of restaurants, discos, stores and beaches offering all types of fun.

Nightlife in the state is best represented by the nights in Acapulco. Sophisticated discos with dancing and parties that last until dawn are everywhere. Some places where you can celebrate into the wee hours of the morning are Baby’o (one of the most legendary places in Acapulco), Alebrije, Bar Río Acapulco, Paradise, Salón Q and Barba Roja among others.

The Avenida Costera Miguel Alemán also is where you’ll find some of the best restaurants in Acapulco like Carlos & Charlie’s, Hard Rock Café, Dino’s Continental, Gianicolo, Villa Sorrento, El Cabrito, Bambucco, Langosta Loca and La Mansión. The list could go on and on, but the important point is that the Costera Miguel Alemán is where you’ll find everything necessary to make your vacation a great memory.

Beaches

Places to Visit

Without a doubt, the beaches are the main attraction of the state. Here you can enjoy all types of water sports and recreational activities. The golden sand and intense blue of the ocean combined with the green of the Sierra Madre, creates a landscape of unmatched beauty.

314 miles of coast offers an ample number of distinct locations that are perfect for enjoying a serene day of sun and sand.

Some of the beaches have restaurants, the majority of which offer seafood. Delight your palate with rich, regional cuisine while contemplating the rolling waves, jump into action with a variety of water sports, or simply relax in a beach chair under the sun.

The surging waves at the beaches in Guerrero are unquestionably great for surfing. Groups of fearless surfers are often seen riding the waves on their boards leaving long streams of foam in their wake.

Acapulco

La Condesa
Here you will find two large hotels and many restaurants on the beach where you can have an exquisite lobster dinner and dancing starting at noon.

Puerto Marqués
This is a small bay located to the side of Acapulco, with a calm sea and several restaurants with great roasted fish.

Revolcadero and Playa Diamante (Diamond Beach)
Revolcadero, an extensive beach you’ll find on the road to the airport, extends from Diamond Beach to Barra Vieja where you can practice your surfing. Swimming is not recommended here because of the dangerous current. Four golf courses are located nearby along with some of the best hotels in the area.

Barra Vieja
Located approximately 20 kilometers from Diamond Point, this beach has tranquil waters and a magnificent restaurant called Betos that serves a delicious Pescado a la Talla.

Pie de la Cuesta
If you want to enjoy a wonderful spot in the sun, don’t miss this beach. Rent a hammock or a beach chair and contemplate this fantastic place.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo

Playa la Ropa
This is one of the most beautiful beaches for swimming and water sports. The waves are calm…perfect for swimmers and non-swimmers alike. It has more than 1.5 kilometers of restaurants. La Perla is a favorite for the freshness of its fish and seafood. It also has a bar with satellite TV where visitors can enjoy watching their favorite sport.

Playa las Gatas
If you love snorkeling and the underwater world, Playa las Gatas is the ideal place for novice and expert snorkelers. This beach has coral reef formations created by the force of waves over time. Surfers will find waves perfect for practicing their favorite sport. Las Gatas has more than a dozen seafood restaurants, so it may be difficult to decide where to eat!

Playa la Madera
You can reach Playa la Madera by walking from Playa Principal. From Playa la Madera, you can admire the entire bay of Zihuatanejo. The waves at this beach are generally good for bodysurfing. Here you will also find a pair of very good restaurants where you can enjoy the typical seafood of this region. For a relaxing experience, enjoy shade under one of the “palapas” or a song from one of the wandering musicians who roam the beach.

Playa Contramar
The main characteristic of this beach is the amazing underwater landscape. This unique diving/snorkeling site has simply spectacular coral and rock formations. Tranquility reigns here as if time has stopped.

Playa Principal (Municipal)
This beach is located directly in front of Zihuatanejo. At the far end of the beach you will find the Muelle Municipal (Muelle Wharf). From this wharf, boats leave for intense days of fishing. At the opposite end of the beach you will find the Costa Grande Archeological Museum. Here you can learn more about the history of this area.

Playa el Palmar
This is the main beach in Ixtapa and where you’ll find the majority of hotels in the city. The hotels create quite a visual impact with their impressive buildings rising up to the border of the coast. The sea is open here, so extreme caution should be taken by swimmers.

Museo de la Platería (The Silver Museum)

Places to Visit

In the city of Taxco, you will find the Silver Museum. It is located in the building known as the Patio de las Artesanías and shows visitors the evolution, representation and figures of this art form.

The museum was created thanks to the efforts of Mr. Antonio Pineda, a renowned silversmith and recipient of many national and international awards. This Taxco resident has spent years dedicating his body and soul to the creation of this museum and has managed to combine a series of pieces from a diverse group of artists. As a result, he has created a magnificent collection representative of silversmiths from all over Mexico.

Prior to the museum’s creation, the state government donated the capital required to build it and granted the National Institute of Anthropology the responsibility to make this important museum a reality. Then, during the National Silver Fair of 1988, the museum was formally inaugurated the Museo de la Platería (the Silver Museum).

As you begin a tour of the museum, you can see pieces from pre-Hispanic times that show the work that the ancient people of the continent created with the precious mineral of that time. This work established important ties between the indigenous cultures. Over time, these people honed their techniques to create these pieces….. perfected works of casting, lamination, filigree and sculpture.
