Ciudad Valles, San Luis Potosí
Ciudad Valles is located 263 km from the city of San Luis Potosí by federal highway number 70. The town was founded in 1533 and in 1827, Villa de los Valles became Ciudad Valles. Now it is the second-most important city in the state and the center of commerce within the region. Although it is a dedicated sugar and cattle producing city, with a provincial air, it also offers all the services found in a modern city. Some of its attractions include the Santiago de los Valles Temple-a Renaissance-style structure, the Presidencia Municipal and Colosio Park. Also, it boasts interesting archaeological museums: the Regional Museum, in which objects of the Tének, Tamuantzan and Huasteca culture are exhibited, and the Tamuantzan Museum which exhibits pieces from the Tantoc, Tamuín and Tének cultures.
The largest celebration, the Huasteca Potosina Regional Fair, takes place May 8th through May 28th. This fair offers cattle, commercial, industrial, and arts and crafts exhibits, as well as rooster fights. The traditional Holy Week and Santiago Apostle Festival occur from July 23rd to the 25th and consist of games, fireworks, music, dances and parades.
