Estado de México

Destinations

Toluca
DestinationsToluca, the capital of the Estado de Mexico, is the highest city in the country at 2,680 meters above sea level. Toluca holds the remnants of a conquered land, framed by the majestic natural beauty of the volcano "Nevado de Toluca". This beautiful colossus rises with its white skirts on the valley plains. This is the only volcano in the world in which you can drive to the crater.

The combination of imposing pre-Columbian architecture and the churches of the colonial era converge in a delight of structures that make up the essence of the city. Its highly valuable cultural center displays the chronology of the city's artistic and cultural evolution.

Toluca is a city with robust industrial, art, commercial and tourist activity and is one of the more densely populated areas of the country. It offers a very high level of tourist services.

The cooking is typically Mexican with delicious "Tortas" and other dishes like chorizo, a dish very closely associated with Toluca. Their soccer team is even called the "Toluca Choriceros".

Among Toluca's many attractions you'll find "Cosmovitral" a work by Leopoldo Flores. It was created using 1,500 pieces of stained glass from Europe and has become a symbol of the city.

All of these virtues along with excellent hospitality and a high level of tourist services, hotels, exciting nightlife, car rental companies, convenient flights, activities, interesting sites, delicious food and a superb climate make Toluca a very worthy vacation option.

Amecameca
DestinationsAmecameca is a city that preserves its history and tradition making it a very interesting spot to visit.

The municipal head of Amecameca has a main plaza and monuments dedicated to the heroes of independence. Here you can enjoy art in nature thanks to the attractive garden adorned with elaborate figures made from the pine trees. This garden is called "Garden of the Lions" because of an iron sculpture of four lions located in the corner of the garden. The homes and streets of this area tell stories of the past, inviting visitors to learn their history.

Located in the central plateau of the country, Amecameca enjoys a mixed architectural legacy of both pre-Columbian and Spanish structures. Some of these buildings include: the Dominico de la Asunción Convent, Arco or Humilladero, and the Sacromonte Sanctuary. The Sacromonte Temple is a colonial building where the pre-Hispanic population worshiped the god Tezcaltlipoca.

Valle de Bravo
DestinationsValle de Bravo is one of the most privileged places in the Estado de Mexico. The edge of the lake of Valle de Bravo is a place of rest and relaxation. This area is considered the "back patio" of many people who live in the metropolitan are of Mexico City.

The town has the typical colorful, modest colonial architecture and stone-paved streets. Great tourist spots include La Peña del Principe, the Municipal Malecon and Embarcadero, the Alameda del Pueblo and the House of Culture.

Its waterfalls are a beautiful natural attraction with crystal clear water. These are called the Avándaro Waterfall and the Salto Velo de Novia Waterfall.

Another great attraction is the 19th century Santa María Ahuacatlán Temple. It holds the Cristo Negro (Black Christ), a very rare representation of Christ that is venerated and admired by the population. The legend of the Black Christ is very interesting. The figure was given to the natives by an unnamed stranger. In a climate of conflict between the indigenous communities, there was a particularly ferocious battle that resulted in a fire in the hut where the figure was kept. The figure impressively withstood the fire that only changed the color of the figure's skin. It became an icon of the city. The San Francisco de Asís Parish, the Central Garden and the Juaquín Arcadio Pagaza Cultural Center are other great spots to visit.

This area is considered the "back patio" of many people who live in the metropolitan area of Mexico City.
