Mulegé, Baja California Sur
The municipality of Mulegé is extremely rich in history. Santa Rosalía is the municipal head that became a very prosperous place with the establishment of the French company, "El Boleo", at the end of the 18th century. Copper mining was a great boon to the economy until the mineral became scarce and "El Boleo" left the city with a useless infrastructure but an abundance of history. The Santa Bárbara Church was designed and built by Gustave Eiffel, who also built the world-famous Eiffel Tower. Guerrero Negro is another interesting place in Mulegé. It has some of the largest salt mines in the world. Laguna Ojo de Liebre is a protected area and gray whale sanctuary. These enormous creatures return every year between January and April to be admired by millions of tourists from all over the world.
