Mexico City, one of the largest cities in the world, is divided into 16 delegations that function like municipalities within the great Aztec city.
The delegations are: Álvaro Obregón, Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Cuauhtémoc, Gustavo A. Madero, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Magdalena Contreras, Miguel Hidalgo, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, Tlalpan, Venustiano Carranza and Xochimilco.
Each one is unique, but the following are some interesting characteristics of four of the delegations:
The Xochimilco Delegation
The Xochimilco
delegation is known for its canals, floating gardens and canoes. Colorful rafts travel slowly down a series of canals with music and tranquility or fun. This area is considered to be one of the most colorful places in the city.
The Cuauhtémoc Delegation
For years, the best mariachis in the capital of the country have gathered in the Cuauhtémoc delegation in Plaza Garibaldi. This is one of the main attractions in this delegation, where celebration, good food and live music definitely keep the visitors interested. Another interesting place is the Historical Center where historical-architectural monuments like the Cathedral, the National Palace, the Zócalo and many others can be found.
The Venustiano Carranza Delegation
The Venustiano Carranza delegation is recognized for its buildings that are visited every year by thousands of locals and tourists. They are: the Mexico City International Airport, the Palacio Negro de Lecumberri, the Legislative Palace and the National General Archives.
The Miguel Hidalgo Delegation
The Miguel Hidalgo delegation is home to a major area of Mexico City, the Chapultepec Forest. This beautiful, green place is located in the middle of the concrete and iron city. The Chapultepec Zoo and the Chapultepec Castle are other attractions found in this delegation.
