Oaxaca

Destinations

The state of Oaxaca has a very interesting range of contrasts. It is rich in culture and natural beauty. This state on the Mexican Pacific has a superb landscape of green forests and blue sea along the coast.

City of Oaxaca

One of the main destinations of the state is the capital, Oaxaca. Oaxaca is one of the more beautiful colonial cities of the country and has archeological zones, convents, baroque temples, civil buildings from the colonial era, and museums, as well as a wealth of cultural offerings exhibited mainly in their religious celebrations with the typical calendas and mayordomías.

Its magic and mysticism can be felt at some of its main attractions like Marador, Cerro Fortín, the Benito Juárez Monument, Arcos de Xochimilco, the Municipal Palace, Plaza de la Danza, the Oaxacan House of Culture, the Fountain of the 7 Regions, Calzada Porfirio Diaz, Macedonio Alcalá Theater, Santa Catalina Monastery and the Central Public Library.

Its food is simply an experience to remember.

Santo Domingo Tehuantepec

This small city in Oaxaca has become an important development of commercial activity thanks to its geographic location. It is strategically located where the ports of Coatzacoalcos and Salina Cruz meet. Daily life is calm and as you stroll down the streets you will find pleasant corners and a very hospitable and smiling people.

The city is an important part of the agro-industrial economy.

Puerto Escondido

Puerto Escondido is surrounded by a large variety of incredible places. Its dense vegetation, small population and inaccessibility make this place a calm paradise. Manialtepec and Chacahua Lakes as will as the Verde River are only a small sample of the beauty of the coast of Oaxaca.

Some of the cultural, natural and architectural attractions are: the catholic church in Rio Grande, Manialtepec Lake, Colotepec River, "La Lagunita", Bajos de Chila, San Gabriel de Mixtepec, the river in San Isidro, San Pedro Juchatengo.

One of Puerto Escondido's best features is its great beaches perfect for water sports like snorkeling, diving and sport fishing. Its main feature however, is its distinction as one of the 10 best places in the world to surf. The International Surfing Tournament is held here every year at Zicaleta Beach.

Huatulco

Huatulco is a world-class beach destination. One of its main characteristics is its nine bays protected as part of the Huatuclo Bays National Park. Here you'll find 36 beautiful beaches, the majority with calm waters of blue and green. Tangolunda Bay has great hotels, tourist services, commercial plazas, and one of the best golf courses along the Mexican Pacific. Santa Cruz Bay is recognized as an ecological reserve due to the extensive coral reefs that surround it.

Each bay has its own particular charm. Impressive dusks, rich, colorful landscapes, a diverse cultural and artistic atmosphere, and great cuisine make Huatulco an unforgettable place.

Árbol del Tule

Another great place to visit in the Oaxaca Valley is the Árbol del Tule (Tule Tree). This 200-year-old, giant Moctezuma Cypress is a true monument to nature. The tree stands in the central patio of the town church like nature's main attraction.
