Puebla

Puebla is a state known for its large number of churches and cathedrals making this an excellent destination spot for those interested in religious architecture.

Puebla is 33,919 km2 and is made up of 217 municipalities. It is bordered by Veracruz, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, the state of Mexico, Morelos, Guerro and Oaxaca. Puebla’s main economic sectors are agriculture, cattle ranching and manufacturing.

The capital, Ciudad de Puebla de Los Ángeles, is a beautiful city built on the rich history of Mexico. Here you will find their Historical Center that harbors the Zócalo, the vestibules and splendid Cathedral, the Callejón del Sapo (Toad Alley), the Pasita, and many museums: Casa del Alfeñique, Amparo, Galería Luis Bello y Zetina, Casa del Dean, Ferrocarril, Vida Animal (Animal Life), Imagina, Fuerte de Guadalupe and Universitario Casa de los Munecos (House of Dolls).

Some important tourist spots in the state are Africam Safari, Atlixco, Tehuacan, Cuetzalan, Tepeaca, Chignahuapan, Valsequillo, Cholula, Valle de las Piedras Encimadas, Huauchinango, Zacatlan and Huejotzingo.

Archeological sites in Puebla, Yohualichan, Cantona, Tecali de Herrera and Cuauhtinchan, show the traces of the pre-Columbian cultures. Other attractions outside of the capital are Cuetzalan, Cholula, Tehuacan and Atlixco, where you will find the imposing Popocatépetl, regional dishes, and important cultural groups.

Other exciting and attractive excursions in Puebla include la Ruta de la Flor (Flower Route), la Ruta del Huipil (Huipil Route), la Ruta del Onix (Onyx Route), la Ruta del Aguacate (the Avocado Route), la Ruta del Arte (the Art Route) and the two mountain routes called Sierra Mágica (Magic Mountain) and Sierra Mixteca (Mixteca Mountain).

Puebla is known for a dish called “Mole Poblano”. This dish has become the world-wide standard for Mexican kitchens, but Mole Poblano isn’t the only dish to enjoy. The indigenous and Spanish inheritance over the passage of time has seasoned their cooking with Arab and French influences resulting in exotic and delicious foods you can only find here: chalupas, verdolagas, tinga, pipián, gusanos de maguey, romeritos, chanclas, cemitas and molotes among others – another great reason to visit Puebla.

Talavera ceramics, onyx work, papel amate and textiles are classic crafts of Puebla. The flavor, culture, architecture and friendly people make this a wonderful spot for vacations or business trips.
