Quintana Roo
Kids
The state of Quintana Roo offers the children in your family spectacular entertainment options. Aquariums are always fun for the kids and the Mayan Riviera specializes in them!
Some great places where children can spend hours of entertainment and learning are: the Escollera Xcaret Zoo and Dolphinarium, The Xcaret Dolphinarium and Aquarium, the Xel-Há Dolphinarium and Xcaret Park.
The unique experience of swimming with dolphins is well within reach in Quintana Roo. The aquatic parks that offer the opportunity to swim with dolphins include: the Escollera Zcaret Dolphinarium, the Xcaret Dolphinarium and Aquarium, and the Xel-Há Dolphinarium. The kids can enjoy these incredible mammals considered to be the friendliest, most intelligent and likeable species in the whole animal kingdom.
The dolphinariums are designed with the well-being of the dolphins in mind. The large area consists of spaces for lodging, entertainment, veterinarian services, isolation, maternity, breeding and interactive programs.
You can also take photographs and video of the experience.
The following is a brief description of each facility:
Escollera Zcaret Dolphinarium
This was the first dolphinarium in the state and was built in 1990. It consists of an estuary within the sea of more than 2000 square meters. The dolphins live in semi-captivity in their natural environment. It was here, in 1992, that Xuná was born. She was the first dolphin born in captivity in Mexico to survive more than a year. Today, she is 13 years old and mother to a second generation of dolphins to be born in a dolphinarium.
Xcaret Dolphinarium and Aquarium
This beautiful and impressive area is divided into two enormous spaces that together include around 4900 square meters. This adventurous architecture brings together the land and the sea and features an extraordinary tunnel that allows the dolphins to be observed under the water.
Xel-Há Dolphinarium
This dolphinarium
is located in the Xel-Há National Park. The remarkable site is made
up of transparent creeks and lagoons that showcase the beauty of the marine
fauna of the Mexican Caribbean and its exuberant vegetation. Shows take
place within this natural aquarium on floating platforms.
In Xcaret, conservation efforts have been made to protect the extinction of a particular marine species, the manatee. Mantees live here in extensive natural pools of water and are another treat for the kids.
Crococum Zoo
Another fabulous attraction in Quintana Roo is the Crococum Zoo,
located on the Cancún – Tulum Highway. This zoo conserves
the typical flora and fauna of the region and is home to crocodiles, wild
boars, snakes, jaguars, wildcats, monkeys and deer. This zoo will entertain
the entire family.
