Chihuahua

Chihuahua, with 244,938 km2, is the largest state in the Republic of Mexico. It borders on the Mexican states of Sonora, Sinaloa, Durango and Coahuila, and the U.S. states of New Mexico and Texas.

Chihuahua is made up of 67 municipalities. Some of the major cities include Parral, Ciudad Juárez, Casas Grandes, Delicias and Chihuahua, the state’s capital.

The abundance of natural beauty in Chihuahua is very impressive, especially Copper Canyon.

One of the main economic activities is assembly. Many trans-national businesses are located in the cities of the area lending to this state’s industrial character.

Chihuahua holds strongly to Mexico’s history. It was in this state that General Francisco “Pancho” Villa (his true name was Doroteo Arango) had his main stronghold and was ambushed and killed by his enemies. Other famous people in history who spent their last days in Chihuahua were the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a prisoner sentenced to death and then shot in 1811. The places where Hidalgo spent his last moments are now museums in honor of this father of the country.

Even before its independence, the state of Chihuahua had an important place in history. It is here that the city of Paquimé (where Casas Grandes is located today) existed in the 8th century. Paquimé was an important center for agriculture and architecture as well as social, commercial, political and religious organization. This city’s historical importance has been preserved in many museums like The Jail of Don Miguel Hidalgo, “Federal Palace”, the XXI Century House, the Cultural Center of Chihuahua, The Casa Villa Museum and the Casa de Juárez Museum.

The lakes, ravines, caves, waterfalls, and deserts skillfully adorn the geography of Chihuahua. Nestled in this beautiful scene are the Basaseachi Waterfalls and Copper Canyon, the latter of which is 1,870 meters deep and 50 kilometers wide. This impressive area is enhanced by cactuses, reed beds, agaves, and pine forests caressed by the breeze of the Urique River. Without a doubt, this is a spectacular presentation of nature that you must see in person.

All of the tourist services offered in the state allow the traveler to be near the beautiful landscapes while enjoying wonderful accommodations.
