Morelia, Michoacán
Morelia is the capital of the state, characterized by its rich cultural and artistic tradition. The region of Morelia also offers typical Michoacan towns like Charo, Capula, Tiripetio, Cuitzeo and Huandacareo that offer the opportunity to visit archeological zones, enjoy the hot springs and taste the wonderful cuisine.
Due to the harmonious atmosphere and the traditional architecture, Morelia is on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
Morelia also has an amazing zoo. It possesses a fantastic 60 acre collection of more than 3,800 examples of 430 different species from all over the world. 49.8% of the animal life is local and the remaining 50.2% is exotic animal life.
It has an outstanding historical center with colonial monuments like the Cathedral, the Tarascas, the Aqueduct, its public plazas, the San Nicolás de Hidalgo College, more than 10 interesting museums and a market full of arts and crafts and sweets where tourists can buy traditional Michoacan candy and arts and crafts from the region.
